Suggested Motorcycle Festival Itinerary

Saturday

Enjoy the ride up to Khancoban via the spectacular mountain roads. For suggested rides, click here. For lunch, why not drop in to one of the great country pubs in the region, such as the Tooma Inn (established 1879), or the Bridge Hotel on the Murray River at Jingellic. After lunch, check into your accommodation at Khancoban and enjoy a well-earned hot shower, or pitch the tent while there’s still plenty of light left in the day.

In the afternoon, see what the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme is all about with a visit to the Murray 1 Power Station on the Alpine Way. The Scheme is by far the largest engineering project ever undertaken in Australia. It is also one of the largest and most complex hydro-electric schemes in the world. Many see its construction as a defining point in Australia’s history, and an important symbol of Australia’s identity as an independent, multicultural and resourceful country.  Next to the Murray 1 Power Station is the Murray 1 Visitors Centre, which offers an interactive experience with a wide range of displays, “hands on” models and exhibits. Light refreshments are available in the Café.

Alternatively, to stretch your legs after the ride to Khancoban, head down to the lakeside walking track. Start at the dam wall, with its massive spillway gates, and follow the foreshore of Khancoban Pondage for about 2 kilometres around to the Boat Ramp and Picnic Area. The water reflects the high mountains of the main range and Mt Kosciuszko above.

Towards the end of the afternoon, head back down to the Khancoban Motorcycle Festival Stage and settle in from 3pm onwards for an evening of entertainment. Grab a chair, some food and a drink or two, and enjoy the country rock and old favourites played by our great line-up of artists into the night.

Sunday

Enjoy a leisurely sleep in before making your way down to the town centre for a relaxed breakfast and coffee. Alternatively, if you’re not one for sleep ins, get up bright and early and head down to the lakeside walking track. Start at the dam wall, with its massive spillway gates, and follow the foreshore of Khancoban Pondage for about 2 kilometres around to the Boat Ramp and Picnic Area. The water reflects the high mountains of the main range and Mt Kosciuszko above. Grab a coffee and a bite to eat before taking the scenic ride home.

Challenge yourself on some of the most spectacular and technical roads in Australia, before settling in to a weekend of relaxed entertainment at the Khancoban Motorcycle Festival.

The festival will kick off at 2.45pm on Saturday 3rd March with a special curtain raising performance by Khancoban Public School. This will be followed by music until midnight from “The Burners”, “The Wayne Ryder band” and “3 on the Tree”. All of the bands are well known around the live music scene, and will play from a wide range of rock and pop covers, from the 60’s through to today. A bar and food stalls will also be on site for the event.

The festival is being held in the parkland on the corner of Scammel Street and Mitchell Ave, adjacent to the Khancoban Pool. The Khancoban community bus will be in operation throughout the event to transport festival goers to and from their accommodation.

On Sunday morning a barbeque breakfast will be available from 8.00am at the festival site. Show n Shine entries will assemble at 8.30am, at the Khancoban shopping centre carpark, and the winner will be announced at 9.30am. Festival tickets are $20 and are available on the day. Children under 18 are free. A portion of the festival’s profits will be donated to the Corryong hospital.
